WHAT TO DO IN TAMATAVE?

Toamasina, also called Tamatave, nestled on the east coast of Madagascar, is a large port city, it is full of many activities including Le City Tour, come and discover the many facets of the great guided port. An excursion at the same time, cultural, historical and culinary.

Visit the old town of Tamatave and its emblematic sites. Maison Nathan is a name derived from a well-known character of the district in the 17th century (Timasy Vavitiana). The Vavitiana Museum is a project to revitalize cultural heritage that has been supported by Switzerland, notably through the provision of photographic works by Jacques Faublée from the Ethnographic Museum in Geneva.

The vast avenue of Independence, lined with palm trees, leads to a boulevard the seafront must.    The tour also includes a culinary discovery, including the famous Chinese soup Lotus Tamatave. 10.00 You will visit the Alliance Française, a Franco-Malagasy cultural and linguistic centre, established in the city of Toamasina since 1975, a large Creole house dating from 1885, belonging to the family of its founder the Norwegian Christian Bango.

An overview of: its colonial vestiges, an architectural, cultural and historical heritage including the square of the column created in 1911. It is divided into three distinct places:

– The square of column A is marked by a commemorative stele of the French and Malagasy soldiers who died since 1883 to 1896, especially during the 1947 rebellions.

– The place of column B was a place of meetings and exchanges between the French and the betsimisaraka.

– The place of column C was and is a cultural place, where they practiced cultural rites, prayers and offerings to ancestors, that’s why you will find here the ‘fisokona’ that our senior guide will not fail to tell you the story.

You will continue to the Place Bien Aimé, les Banians: a place where the tamatavian have racked there part of their childhood having played in Tarzan, pointed or shot at the petanque. . As the pleasures do not burn out, you will take the Avenue de l’Indépendance omited by gigantic palm trees on both sides, to arrive «to the edge» as it is said here: this is the essential waterfront, where you can taste «masquitas» and take some “fresh coconut juice”.
